Abstract

The American Hospital Supply Corporation was founded in 1922 by Foster G. McGaw and partners. (McGaw was an important donor to Northwestern University, and to many other institutions.) The Corporation's records fill twenty-two boxes, and date from 1920 to 1986. Records include the following principal categories: advertising; marketing; corporate correspondence; divisional records for acquisitions and subsidiaries; mergers; scrapbooks; stocks and securities; legal records.

Hans Christian Andersen Awards

Since 1956, the International Board on Books for Young People has presented the Hans Christian Andersen Award to a living author or (since 1966) illustrator who has made a lasting contribution to children's literature. The McCormick Library’s collection of materials for the Hans Christian Andersen Awards consists of the biennial informational dossiers submitted by candidates for 1992-2006, clippings, reviews, and dust jackets by some of the authors or illustrators.

Ira D. Anderson (1907-1993) Papers

Ira D. Anderson joined the faculty of Northwestern University in the School of Commerce in 1937, and together with Delbert Duncan, established the Graduate Internship program in Retailing and Advertising. Anderson's papers fill one and a half boxes and include mostly teaching files from the period prior to his administrative work in the School of Business.

The Records of the Anthropology Department, filling five boxes, span the years 1964 to 1973. No records exist for the 1965-66 academic year. The bulk of the records fall between 1964 and 1969 and include, but are not limited to, annual reports, applications for graduate study or employment, budgets, correspondence, curriculum, department memos, faculty curriculum vitae, and materials relating to fellowships, the Program of African Studies, research proposals, and summer sessions.

This collection includes 49 images from a student-led protest of the Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) recruitment on campus on November 14, 1988. Multiple student organizations vehemently opposed the CIA’s presence on campus and started calling for action and/or protests. This collection also includes a small selection of articles from the Daily Northwestern describing the incident.
